The Amara Home Stay, Dandeli, started in the year 2007, is a family run business located at Gund village in the core area of Kali Tiger Reserve, 32 kilometres from Dandeli and five kilometres away from Syntheri rocks. It is run by Ramchanda Hegde and his entire family which includes his spouse Mangala Hegde, his mother Devamma Hegde, son Ajit and daughter-in-law Archana Hegde. The home stay offers four cottages and camping tents along with separate dining and playing area to the guests, the rooms are comfortable and spacious separate cottages for families provided. A sufficient parking space is available along with a ground for outdoor activities.
The authentic local Malnad vegetarian cuisine, is a must try, is on demand of the guests who visit often and it makes a wonderful meal. The home stay respects the demand of some guests and also serves Jain meals. The food is prepared by the female family members of the Hegde household and is served by Ramchandra Hegde and his son Ajit. By interacting with the hosts, the guests exchange ideas, see different culture, share their thoughts, and experience and enjoy the local cuisine by interacting with the family members. One can see firsthand the local Yakshagana art form, listen to Hindustani classical music and see Warli painting. Other activities like nature walk, bird watching, trekking, rafting and jungle safari in and around Dandeli is also conducted. The home stay has won the Navodyami Award given by the Deshpande Foundation, Hubballi, for best service and quality of food in the tourist destinations around Dandeli.
