There’s never a dull day in politics and among the politicians of all parties. Some of them make frequently make outlandish statements which speaks about their bird brained mindset. It’s done for optics and tickling the funny bones of their voters and readers. Their words of infinite wisdom keeps trending in the news, till the next controversy erupts.
The TVK got a massive verdict in the assembly elections, and C. Joseph Vijay formed the government with the support of the Congress party. The Congress MLAs are also now sharing power after breaking up with their time tested allies, the DMK. The most laughable is the political statement from the southern state Tamil Nadu, making news and grabbing headlines. And the reason is fan clubs and enthusiastic supporters and leaders from the TVK giving sound bytes about their Chief Minister as the next PM. They want him to take on the the national role, and pitching for him as the country’s next Prime Minister in 2029! After the TVK in its electoral debut upset the political apple cart in the state. The party members believe and fancy C. Joseph Vijay, as the next PM-in-making and waiting from southern India.
But there’s been strong opposition right from their supporting ally, the Congress party. One of the Congress Minister threatened to resign if the TVK kept insisting on the PM’s post. At best the TVK’s move should be seen as political posturing, in case of a hung verdict post the general election results in 2029. The Congress party also threw it’s hat in the ring for the PM’s post. Another Congress leader also supported Rahul Gandhi’s claims for the top post. And he further added, that the discussion should not go out of hand. It’s a long march ahead to the coveted PM’s chair.
The TVK and other parties must not forget that the BJP and PM Modi, will leave no stone unturned to be back in the saddle for the fourth time. The saffron party is no walkover, and they’ve been doing everything possible to game the electoral process favouring them through S.I.R . There are reports from every state which has lost voters due to the S.I.R initiative.
The Congress party should know that it needs to win a large number of Lok Sabha seats in 2029, if it has to be taken seriously by the INDIA alliance (IA). The grand old party (GOP) cannot take for granted the support of the alliance partners. The BJP has mastered the art of winning elections since 2014, 2019 and completed a hat-trick in 2024. The BJP was restricted to 240 seats in 2024, and yet they formed the government though with a reduced mandate.
Chief Minister Vijay led TVK, should know that they have a task cut and must fulfill the promises they made and act accordingly. The CM’s work will definitely work in his favour, if he delivers on the responsibility given to him and his party. The general elections are still three years away and his priority must be to develop his state.
The Congress party and TVK should focus on work, and must not get distracted by making claims to the Prime Minister’s post. The Congress party should win allies, build rapport within the coalition and solely focus on defeating the BJP. The Congress party’s credibility is at stake, as its been out of power at the centre since 2014. And in early February-March 2027, the five states of: Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh go to the assembly polls. The Congress party’s electoral performance will be keenly watched by all. And how well the party performs, will make or mar it’s further political prospects.
